The story begins in 1899 in Kanazawa, the centre of Japanese gold leaf production. At the Yoshitaka workshop, something remarkable was observed: the elderly gold leaf makers, who dipped their hands daily into a fermented paste made from washi paper as part of the gold leaf-making process, had the softest, most youthful-looking hands. And this despite the fact that their work was anything but gentle. Based on this observation, the workers began to produce their own skincare products – for a more radiant, beautiful complexion. This knowledge was passed down from generation to generation. Later, the MAKANAI brand emerged from the Yoshitaka workshop and developed this traditional recipe into the scientific formulation known today as the KaESS complex.
The KaESS complex is at the heart of every single product in this set. It consists mainly of three key ingredients: Persimmon leaves are exceptionally rich in vitamin C and promote skin renewal.
